Trio April 2019 - 1 BW.jpg

Solstice are a contemporary piano trio based in Melbourne. The trio formed in 2015, drawn together by a mutual desire to break the piano trio out of its classical music traditions with new repertoire, new performance venues, and a new audience.

The trio have spent the last four years engaging in genre-crossing collaborations, curating performances which extend the concert experience beyond usual expectations, allowing space for moments of social connection and the sharing of ideas.

Tempo Rubato

Saturday november 16th

A lush and gritty program inspired by a palette of shifting drones, acid house, Dada and reminiscences of Schubert. Heavily featuring New-York based composers at the boundaries of contemporary classical, the program includes works by Florent Ghys, Missy Mazzoli, Pascal LeBoeuf and Nico Muhly. Their music is intensified by contrasting sound worlds from further afar, of Parisian pioneer in French composition, Nadia Boulanger, and Estonia's Arvo Pärt, who sits in a genre of his own.
